Floating pad

A condition occurring with resistivity devices where a pad is no longer in contact with the borehole wall and the logging device is reading drilling mud values.  Commonly occurs within zones of excess hole enlargement and within inclined and horizontal wells when pads are forced down from the ceiling.  Pad pressure can be increased to offset the problem within inclined and horizontal wells.
