TASK Geoscience was founded in 2001 by a team of three key persons: Lawrence Bourke (managing director and Perth office manager), Stuart Buck (director) and Roderick (Roddy) McGarva (principal sedimentologist).
Their professional relationship dates back to the time when they all worked together for Schlumberger in Aberdeen, as part of their Dipmeter and Borehole Image Geological Interpretation Group. In 1993, the “Gang of Four” (Lawrence Bourke, Stuart Buck, Roddy McGarva and John Adams) all left Schlumberger together as a team, to start a new business unit for the Z&S Group of Companies, forming a processing and geological interpretation centre in Aberdeen called Z&S GEOScience Ltd. After a period of great success and growth, the Z&S group of companies was bought out by Western Atlas in 1998, who themselves shortly afterwards were bought out by Baker Hughes. As Directors, principal share holders and joint owners, the “Gang of Four” was contractually committed to serve a period of time as Baker Hughes employees, under a non-competition clause of the company buy-out. However, once this three year non-competition clause window had expired in 2001, three of the original “Gang of Four” (Lawrence Bourke, Stuart Buck and Roddy McGarva) decided to once again formulate a new business entity based on Processing and Geological Interpretation of Dipmeter and Borehole Images – called TASK Geoscience. John Adams is still associated with TASK Geoscience, mainly in the form of occasional consultant structural geologist.
Fronterra Geosciences was founded in 2003 by Hermann Homann, a geologist with an infectious enthusiasm, passion for geoscience and more than 25 years of international experience in numerous geological disciplines. Throughout his career, Hermann developed new techniques for resolving reservoir uncertainties. Initially working out of his home in Houston, TX serving customers in Texas and Oklahoma, he rapidly grew his company, first expanding into various US markets, and then opening offices around the globe. What started as borehole image interpretation and analysis progressed to fully integrated borehole studies and eventually evolved into integrated world-class reservoir evaluation solutions. By extracting maximum value from each piece of geologic data using a unique integrated approach and utilizing the expertise of an international team of industry leaders, Fronterra enabled a world-class roster of client corporations to achieve new levels of opportunity and profitability.
Task Geoscience and Fronterra Geoscience Merged as of July 2014. Task Fronterra are a specialist team, comprising geoscientists, petroleum geologists, structural geologists, sedimentologists, and software engineers. We maintain close links with academic and research groups and institutions, as well as leading industrial supplier companies, keeping us at the technological leading edge of dipmeter and borehole image interpretation.
