De-spiking

Removal or replacement of anomalously large, positive or negative, values from a logging data set.  Acquired borehole image or dipmeter data can sometimes contain numerical values that are excessive or out of the range of the tool response.  These values can act to skew summary statistics and processing procedures dependent on data ranges or averages, such as assignment of borehole image data into colour bins.
