Key seating

During the drilling of deviated wells drill pipe tends to lie on bottom (low side) of the well bore.  This produces wear at the low side of the well in the direction of drilling resulting in an elongate hole described as key seating.  Locations for severe key seating are found where rapid changes in hole inclination (dog-legs) occur.
